Dear Friends,
Hereby a small update relating the COVID19 pandemic and its effect on our business so far and in the near future.
First of all we would like to thank our customers, suppliers and other partners for their continuous trust and support during this pandemic. It takes a lot of flexibility, courage and perseverance to get us through an unprecedented situation like this, so a big thank you to all of you!
Corona is currently dominating our lives, and unfortunately it will continue to do so for some time. Our industry is also being hit hard. Several countries around the world are currently in lockdown and as a result flight schedules are severely disrupted.
Due to the lockdown the demand for Dutch flowers have been decreased significantly. You have probably seen the awful videos of the disposal of thousands of fresh flowers. At the beginning of this week, all growers were called upon to temporarily supply fewer products as an emergency measure. Since then, it has been monitored on a daily basis which and how many flowers and plants may be supplied in order to keep the turnaround as limited as possible and to restore price formation. The volume of the current supply is around 30% compared to the same period last year.
Florca Westland is still open 5 days a week, as usual, and we will try to fulfill our customers and partners needs in the best possible way. The shipping may be disrupted or delayed though, please contact your account manager for further information regarding your shipments.
In addition to all this news we would like to urge you to keep in mind that flowers are the unifying symbol of joy, beauty, cheerfulness and healing. Flowers have a positive effect on overall health, they are a mood booster, and a stress reducer. Flowers have the capability to fulfill a deep yearning for peace and joy in the hearts and souls of the consumer particularly at this time. During this tough times we ask everyone in the floral industry to turn this crisis into a defining moment of permanently changing the paradigm of floral purchasing behavior.
Please take care of yourselves and families, your colleagues and neighbors. It’s at times like these that our global community comes together with compassion and caring.
Thank you and take care!
The Florca Team
