Hot weather

In these months the weather is very hot in some countries. But how to protect flowers from hot weather? Luckily, we have some tips to help your blooms survive the heat.

FIND A COOL SPOT
Avoid placing a fresh bouquet of flowers in full sunlight as, just like our skin, the delicate petals can burn. It’s better to find a fresh, cool spot to display them. If you are lucky enough to have a balcony or garden, your flowers will love being in the fresh air and shade, and you can enjoy them while working or reading a book outside. And just like at night time, when we open our windows to enjoy the cool air, your flowers may find it more pleasant to spend the night outdoors.

WATER, WATER, WATER
We all drink a lot more when it’s hot, and flowers are no exception. Don’t forget your blooms when pouring yourself a glass of squash or lemonade. Either top the vase up with extra water if you are in a hurry, or if you have the time replace the warm vase water every day with fresh, cool water from the tap.

CHOOSE CAREFULLY
Some flowers cope better with heat than others. We keep an eye on the weather forecast to judge when a heatwave is coming, as this helps us choose flowers that we know can withstand hot weather. Delphiniums, gladioli, alstroemeria and gerberas all cope very well with heat, and make excellent choices for a summer birthday bouquet.

DON’T GET TOO ATTACHED
We’re full of appreciation for the way flowers add beauty to our lives — so when there’s a stem that’s suffering we know we can remove from the rest of the bunch with a clear conscience. It’s important to take out those flowers that have wilted, faded and drooped in the heat, to make sure it doesn’t affect the other flowers and keep the bouquet looking summery and splendid.
