On 15 August, part of our team visited Together2Grow in Schipluiden. We are enthusiastically received by Robin van der Knaap, the salesman at Together2Grow.

Robin gives us a tour at the nursery and tells us everything about the process of growing the Alstroemerias at Together2Grow.

Ten years ago, Bernard Zuidgeest and Fedor van Veen started an cooperation which ended with a new company called Together2Grow. Before this period both men had their own companies called; BZ Alstroemeria and Van Veen Alstroemeria. The owners Bernard Zuidgeest and Fedor van Veen were both full of ambition and decided that you can achieve more if you combine your strengths. They felt that they could bring the companies to a higher level by sharing knowledge and by moving forward together. The name of Together2Grow is officially presented in 2016 and since 2017 they have become a proud member of the Decorum Company.

Robin tells us that Together2Grow is divided over three locations; Schipluiden, Poeldijk, and Kwintsheul. At these three locations, with a total surface area of 8.8 hectares, more than 35 million stems are grown annually. Together2grow grows unique Alstroemerias year-round. They currently have 26 varieties of high-quality Alstroemeria and Florinca varieties in their assortment.

Together2Grow has 3 levels of quality. The stems are divided based on their quality. Robin shows us that this selection process is fully automated. At the time of distribution, an X-ray photo is made of each stem and the quality is based on this photo.

Together2Grow also works closely with various Alstroemeria breeders. This allows them to introduce a new variety to the market every year. You may know their latest introduction of their newest Alstroemeria; the Mojito.

Finally, Together2grow is increasingly focusing on sustainability. In the nursery there is almost only use of biological pesticides and, for the ultimate growth of the Alstroemeria, sustainably obtained CO2 is added.
