Sustainability
Florca, part of Dutch Flower Group (DFG), is committed to a sustainable future for the floriculture industry.
We are committed to a sustainable future for the floriculture industry.
We translate this into three focal points:
Sustainable purchasing
Sustainably sourcing our products is an important part of our business strategy. As part of DFG, Florca is involved in the Floriculture Sustainability Initiative, which monitors whether the production and trade of products are conducted responsibly. To demonstrate this, growers must obtain sustainability certifications. Once these certifications are achieved, procurement is considered sustainable or certified.
As part of the FSI Accelerator Group (together with other DFG companies: FM Group, Floral Trade Group, and Royal Lemkes), we follow the following roadmap for sustainable procurement
1. From 01/01/2026, all plants will be 100% FSI-compliant.
2. From 01/01/2026, the flower product groups rose and chrysanthemum will be 100% FSI-compliant.
3. From 01/06/2026, the tulip product group will be 100% FSI-compliant.
4. From 01/01/2027, the mentioned companies will phase in 100% compliance of their entire own procurement according to the certifications in the FSI basket of standards. This will be achieved using the learning curves and processes from the rose, chrysanthemum, and tulip product groups.
5. Additionally, these companies will actively work to ensure that even more trading companies and KOA customers transition to the requirements of FSI-compliant certification for their procurement.
In this way, we take responsibility for the products we trade, aiming to make a positive contribution to both the entire supply chain and the sector.
We believe that our relationship with growers is the foundation of our business operations. By maintaining daily contact, we can ensure the best quality of our products. Together with our growers, we are building a sustainable future for the floriculture sector by discussing challenges related to sustainability, among other topics. We strengthen this relationship by visiting growers and organizing supplier meetings to discuss market developments.
Sustainable operations
Florca strives to ensure that its internal processes are designed as sustainably as possible so that this has minimal impact on the environment. For example, we use 100% green electricity in our premises. By switching to sustainable energy sources, we reduce our CO2 emissions significantly. In addition, we contribute to a cleaner future by separating and recycling our waste streams as much as possible.
Vital organization
Florca is proud of its young and ambitious team with Westland mentality. Within our company we strive for a sustainable commitment of our employees in which the well-being of our employees is central. We are proud of our healthy workplace within an inspiring working environment. The range of courses and training offers good development and advancement opportunities within the company. But above all, we find pleasure in work the most important thing. Various activities are organized throughout the year, both focused on team building and sports. In addition, free fruit is provided and there is a bicycle plan to purchase an electric bicycle through the company.
These three focal points are supported by DFG's sustainability strategy called IMPACT30. With this strategy, the DFG companies are committed to making a positive environmental and social impact with all activities to make our companies and chains within the floriculture sector even more sustainable.
