The hydrangea symbolizes grace, abundance and genuine emotions. The large, bulbous flower is made up of countless small petals, creating a lush and luxurious look. Perfect for eye-catching bouquets, ceremonial arrangements or as a meaningful gift.
Cut hydrangeas come in a wide range of colors: white, pink, blue, purple and green - often with unusual color transitions or contrasting edges. A variety of flower shapes are available:
Mophead hydrangeas
Lacecap hydrangeas
Hydrangeas (Hydrangea paniculata)
This variety makes the hydrangea suitable for a variety of styles - from sleek modern to romantic and natural.
The unique color change process
One of the most special features of the hydrangea is its ability to change color throughout the season - for example, from pink to green with warm undertones.
This results in two types:
Fresh hydrangeas: bright and vibrant in color (March - September)
Classic hydrangeas: mature, firm and long lasting (June - November)
The grower determines the harvest time, which determines the color stage in which the flower is delivered.
Hydrangeas are native to Southeast Asia but also grow in the Americas. The name is derived from Greek: "hydro" (water) and "angeion" (vessel). The name "hydrangea" was introduced in 1771 by French botanist Philibert Commerson.
In Europe, the hydrangea became known in the 18th century, although fossils show that this flower has been around for millions of years.
Versatile in use
Cut hydrangeas are ideal for professional floral arrangements. With stem lengths from 30 to over 80 cm, they are suitable for both compact bouquets and large arrangements. Their sturdy stems and full flowers make them easy to handle and instantly impressive.
Availability: mainly from May to November. Limited availability in winter months from greenhouse production.
To extend vase life:
Do's ✓
✓ Cut at an angle with a sharp knife
✓ Use warm water (40-50°C)
✓ Add cut flower food or chlorine for longer shelf life
✓ Use a glass vase
✓ Change the water regularly
Don'ts ✗
✗ Don't use cold water
✗ Do not use metal or dirty vases
✗ Do not place in direct sunlight or drafts
✗ Do not place on underfloor heating
A wilted hydrangea can often recover by re-cutting the stem and placing it in warm water. If the flower no longer absorbs water, let it dry naturally.
Classic hydrangeas retain their shape and color well, making them perfect for drying bouquets and long-lasting interior decoration. Simply remove the leaves and place the stem in a dry vase without water.
